RVNN's 10 Days of Giving - Amazing Prizes For You This Holiday Season

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. #913 - Geocaching Thing-A-Mabobs

What-cha-macallits, whos-a-whatzis and thing-a-mabobs was the theme for last night's recording of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). When I first Skyped in to the studio it sounded more like gremlin's day. Apparently Producer/Co-Host Courtney Wallin was having some continuous technical issues all day and they were not slowing down right up to show time. Now I have never seen Courtney mad before and quite frankly all she has to do is give me "The Look" which is enough to send shivers down the spine of any action hero. So when she was stating that she was going to lose it, I wasn't sure I wanted to be around when that happened. Fortunately for everyone things mostly settled down in time to do the show.

One of the things that we have been playing with is the use of Google+ hangouts during the recording of the show. We tried it again last night and had some really nice results. There is going to be a bunch more tweaking that needs to be done to get the full functionality but I can see it as a nice addition in the not too distant future. One of the cool things that I can do is run a second camera off of my second computer when we do this. I just found it a bit cumbersome because I also use that monitor for watching the chat-room while we do the show. So it also is going to mean getting a second monitor for that system like I have for my primary system. That will be four monitors going now but it is necessary between the Skype session, show notes, hang out, chat-room and anything else I need. Oh and the addition of a new Microsoft Lifecam Cinema webcam has greatly improved the Skype session over my laptop camera. HD is a good thing.

Wow, just realized how much I was rambling about all the technical stuff going on and haven't talked about the show itself yet. Ah well isn't that what the "Behind the Scenes" goodness is all about? Okay, on with the show.

We talked about many of the favorite thing-a-mabobs that geocachers use when out geocaching. Theses items are not your run of the mill things like GPSr units, topo maps or ammo cans. More like extension grabbers, multi-tools and led light baseball caps. This is all geocachers information gold because you are going to run into a situation where you have to get a geocache and you don't have the right gizmo to do it. This show will help you fill up your geocaching pack with the right tools for the job. If you want to get all the details you will have to watch the entire show when it goes into distribution. Don't fret it will only be a week or so.

When RVNN.tv and Geocaching World producer Courtney Wallin told me that she was going to go geocaching for the first time I was really excited for her. She went geocaching all right and in true geocaching tradition the weather was not optimal. Check this out.

She went camping in Michigan within a National State Forest. It was raining, the temps in the 40s and AT NIGHT! Did I mention this was her first geocache?

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Meet and Greet GPSr FAQs

On my way home from my computer based employment I had RVNN LIVE streaming through my Android phone. It was kind of humorous to me when Creative Director Dave Dufour was talking with Managing Director Andy McCaskey and letting the viewing audience know they were on their own today. Apparently Producer Courtney Wallin was out for the day and Dave would have to do all the switching. Now on a Tuesday that was not directly impacting to me because Geocaching World is normally recorded on Thrusdays. The issue was due to some scheduling issues RVNN.tv asked me to tape tonight instead of Thursday. Well goody.

It really isn't THAT bad when Courtney isn't at the helm. Though it is noticeably different and let's just say we really like it when Courtney is in but hey, it couldn't get worse - could it?

So setup time came around and my Skype session kicks off as usual. I expected to see Andy McCaskey smiling back at me when the video started but instead there was my friend Dave Dufour. Turns out that Andy had to leave as well so the entire production crew consisted of ... Dave Dufour. Hmmmm, this should be interesting. Poor Dave, not only did he have to do all the production switching but also be in front of the camera as well while we did the show and to top it off he had to stay behind the production board instead of being in the main studio like we normally do. Oh yeah, loads of fun.

Because the show was on a different night and we had to make the schedule change at the last minute neither of us really thought there would be that many people if at all in the chat room. WRONG it was filled up as usual and I was really pleased to see that. It's amazing how Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and word of mouth can get the message out. It was a really lively chat room and both Dave and I were struggling to keep up with the discussions going on and do the actual show. In fact in one part of the show I believe Dave made a funny comment on how he would rather just keep up with the chat room. What can I say we have a bunch of really great people there each and every week.

As far as the actual show goes I think it went fine. Since Dave had to switch between me on Skype and him behind the control board it looked more like a RVNN LIVE show than Geocaching World but hey you have to make due with what is presented to you. In short we did just fine.

The show generally turned out to be about FAQs for how to consider purchasing a GPSr unit. We were extremely thorough in the discussion and covered all the major aspects that you should consider before forking out some serious coin. During the show we gave out two really cool prizes. One was a very nice wrist bracelet from GeoSurvivalGear.com and an excellent Grand Canyon Benchmark geocoin from CoinsAndPins.com. Not to mention that the BRAZOS Walking Stick giveaway has been extended to next week so you now have until October 26th, 2011 to get your entries in and we will have the drawing live on the show on October 27th, 2011.

So it turned out to be another great Meet and Greet episode of Geocaching World despite Dave losing his mind doing basically everything production wise. Okay I have read out in the Geocaching World that not everybody goes geocaching with a walking stick. To each, his or her own I say. Yet even if you don't normally use one or maybe you do, wouldn't it be cool to have a hand made one for your very own? Have it standing next to the fireplace or in that special corner in the den, it makes a great conversation piece. That or you can walk it down to a nub if you want to use it for it's actual purpose. Either way it is just too cool!

Well we are giving a Brazos "Traveler" Walking Stick away on Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). They were kind enough to donate one for our Cache Stash and we are in turn happy to give it away as a prize to a lucky viewer of the show.

So how do you win it? Great question.

You make yourself a picture stating at the very least the words "Geocaching World" on it. You can print it off, make it yourself, be as creative as you would like. Note creativity does not get you extra points but it will more than likely get your photo on the show!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv): Smorgasbord of Topics #905Meet & Greet

It is official, we love doing Meet and Greet style formats for Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) shows. They are so much fun and has a completely relaxed atmosphere to it. We get to goof around a bunch more like tonight when Creative Director, Dave Dufour was all dressed up in a tie, I punked him by also wearing a tie over my tie-dye tshirt. We also have a more direct communication with the viewers in the the chat-room.

Tonight's episode was kind of a Smorgasbord of Topics which happens when we have a bunch of different subjects to talk about but none of them by themselves would fill a whole section or show. We talked about interesting geocaching goodness like using Triangulation to find a geocache, showed a website that makes converting map coordinates easy and showed off a Decoder Geocoin. There is a whole bunch more but you really should see the show to appreciate all of it.

For the Geocaching World Cache Stash Sponsorship we introduced CoinsAndPins.com who has donated all kinds of great prizes for the show. We gave away a trackable tag and a really cool geocoin. Thanks so much to CoinsAndPins.com for being a part of the Cache Stash!

Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Meet and Greet Episodes Rock!

Over the past month or so we have had a slightly different format to our Geocaching World show. Normally we offer a 30 minute show which is broken up with three, eight minute, segments and the rest is filled with commercials, show bumpers and other necessary stuff. It is really a lot of fun to do but one of the things we noticed was how Creative Director Dave Dufour, Producer Courtney Wallin and myself Andy "HeadHardHat" Smith kept discussing a ton of Geocaching stuff in-between segments. Many times we answered questions from the chat room which is full every time we record the show and none of this was recorded. A terrible waste of content in my opinion. We needed a way of getting almost all of our discussions recorded and so the Geocaching World "Meet and Greet" was tried.

If you go to iTunes you will see the Meet and Greet style shows are a bit longer. Usually running a good 45 minutes in length or more. We do commercials but they are done live right as we record the show. As an added bonus a lot more of the adhoc discussions are kept within the show as well. This gives Geocaching World a much more relaxed "let's hang out and talk Geocaching" kind of feel to it.

Now we get a lot more interaction with the chat room, more photos from geocachers and LOTS more chances for people to win cool prizes from our Cache Stash. The Geocaching World Cache Stash is a sponsorship program where Geocaching based companies can donate prizes that are given away during the show in exchange for a mention of the company and their product. It is becoming very popular with more participants getting into the program every month. A nice win-win in all of our books.

So if you are interested in Geocaching and want to learn more, want to get in on the fun of hanging out with a whole bunch of very interactive and helpful geocachers in the chat room or just want to participate in the making of a live TV show. Geocaching World is the place to be.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episode #32 - FAQ's

What a fun show tonight. This episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) was in that fun and easy style of a Meet and Greet. Here we get away with a lot more. We communicate with the chat room a whole lot more and they interact right back with us. This makes the show so much more entertaining because the chat room sort of directs how the show goes. Tonight we did an FAQ show, in other words, a geocaching Frequently Asked Question show. It doesn't matter how much a person does geocaching there are always questions about some subject or another. Tonight we pulled out of a hat a bunch of different questions and then discussed them. This further brought in other questions from the chat room and on we went.

The weekly show prizes were both donated by our friends at GxProxy.com. the first was some great Trail Tags. These are night type tacks that are directional. They literally can point in the next direction you want the finder to go. Our winner of this had to encode a message into Rot13 and that was - Dane Morgan.

The second question was what does the acronym TPTB mean? The winner was Louis Caplan who won some really nice GxProxy.com donated Waypoint Tags.

It was so relaxed tonight even Dave Dufour and I got to make fun of Producer Courtney Wallin in regards to the Michigan / Notre Dame game played earlier in the week. I was able to get my "Go Blue" digs in because they won said game and Courtney gave one of her best "The Look" expressions I have had in a while.

Questions tonight touched adopting a geocache, how reliable are smart phone GPS units, what is a stash note and do a lot of geocachers like geocaching alone. There were tons more but these are some of them.

We went through two different "Lets Go Geocaching" videos where we witnessed a bunch of different geocaching hides in areas around the country.

There was a whole lot more talked about as well but you really should see the show itself. It is well worth the watch.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - #31 Geocoinfest US 2011 - Meet and Greet

Last night's show was just a powerhouse of great discussion, lively guests and a packed chat room that took a life of it's own. Amazing!

This episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) started off early. The chat room started filling up about 20 to 30 minutes before setup time. I always like that because it gives me more time to chat with our viewers. Our first of two guests on the show was our Vonage: Time To Call iPad 2 Giveaway winner: Giancarlo Herrera. Giancarlo is an amazing young man who not only loves to geocache but who also has his own geocaching based podcast called the GeoCraze Podcast. We congratulate him on winning such an amazing prize!

Our second guest is one of the organizers to this year's Geocoinfest US 2011 Mega Event. Scott Seegars described to us all the details that are going to be happening this October. I am really excited about Geocoinfest because I will actually be attending it and also am a guest speaker. There will be lots more details when I get back and we will be featuring them in one of the upcoming Geocaching World episodes.

Did I mention how packed the chat room was? One of the main concepts behind the new Meet and Greet style shows is ability to be more relaxed and literally chat with everyone. We had discussions, questions and remarks all night from the chat room and to me personally THAT really dictates our show. The more interaction we have with our viewers the more fun it is for everybody. So now would be the best time to say thanks for everyone who did attend and we look forward to seeing you back and encourage even more to stop by and share the wealth of geocaching knowledge.

There was so much information we had to go through we almost forgot to give away our weekly prize for the show. ALMOST that is. This weeks winner received a cool 8 1/2" wristband from GeoSurvivalGear.com. We will be getting that and some of the backlogged prizes out in the mail this weekend.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episode #30 Paperless Geocaching Meet and Greet

Tonight's episode of Geocaching World was once again a Meet and Greet format which meant it is a whole lot less formal overall. Creative Director Dave Dufour and myself like doing the show this way. Mainly because we can interact directly with the folks in the chat room. This is great because we can start on a particular subject and the chat room can direct in a way how the show goes. It is a lot of fun.

Because this format is a lot less formal we can give away a lot more prizes which is always great with the chat room and our viewers. This week we gave a really nice cami bison tube from GxProxy.com which went to Pingvoyager who is a regular in the chat room. We also showed a bunch of photos that were sent in for the Vonage: Time To Call contest we have been running all week. It showed geocachers doing what they do best. The entries that were sent in goes into a drawing that one lucky winner will win a brand new iPad 2. The drawing is Saturday, September 3, 2011.

The meat of discussion with today's show dealt with Paperless Geocaching. We went over the general history of paperless geocaching and how it and GPSrs has developed over the years. We talked about everything from PDAs, Netbooks, Tablets, Smart Phones and other applications.

The second prize we gave out was really cool. For the Vonage contest there is a limit of one entry per person. The prize we did here was who ever sent in the correct answer from the chat room would win ten entries to possibly win the iPad2. Viewer AVToolman was the viewer with the correct answer.

There is a whole lot of great discussion and other valuable information in the show itself. Be sure to check it out when it becomes available in iTunes in the next day or so.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Ep. 29 - Create Your Own Geocache Meet and Greet

Wow, what a night! So many fantastic things going all at once for this episode of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv).

First off this was the very first time that we ran LIVE video as we recorded on both RVNN.tv and the TechPodcast Network at the same time. Next we are starting our Fall recording schedule so our new night is Thursdays at 6:30pm EST.

Finally we are a part of a Vonage IPad2 Giveaway. In tonight's episode one lucky winner in our chat room won 10 total chances to win the Vonage prize.Another slight change we presented this episode with a geocacher's Meet and Greet style to it. A bit more casual and a bunch more interaction with the chatroom. It was definitely different but a lot of fun.

I think the people in the chat room had a lot more fun as well.The discussions for today included making your own geocaches for example we talked about my Evil Ant Hill Geocache which we showed how we made it out of bondo. Then we went over a whole set of PVC geocaches and finished with my Evil Resin Geocaches. For prizes our winners were Collin who won a Cache-A-Maniacs Podcast Geocoin and Scott won the 10 chances to win the Vonage IPad2. If you want to put in your chance to win the IPad2. Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episodes #27 Eric From Groundspeak #28 Placing Your First Geocache Part 2

I find myself smiling once again when typing down the behind the scenes RVNN.tv goodness and thinking back about all the things that goes on when we record Geocaching World. We did two shows and had one heck of a fun session. The only bummer for the whole night was Producer Courtney Wallin was not there due to her not feeling well. We missed her A LOT and in fact many GW viewers sent Courtney emails of get well wishes. Our viewers are the best. Some how though we did manage to get through the evening. Did I mention we missed Courtney? Managing Director Andy McCaskey had his hands full while we recorded the shows as he filled in for Courtney and did all the things a Managing Director does. Mostly it's to wrangle Dave and I when we get off on one of our tracks. Like say for example as we break out in quotes from The Three Stooges. What can I say we do have fun.

Some very cool things of note that happened during the show. We had viewers in the chat room last night from New Zealand , Prague of the Czeck Republic and Canada! Not to mention all across the USofA. That is so great and we really appreciate you all being there.

Anywho, Our first show we had as our guest Eric Shudiske from Groundspeak via Skype. We talked about everything from the new geocache type known as Challenges and what they are. Then the discussion turned to Eric's trip with the Groundspeak film crew as they explored and filmed geocaching in Germany and the Czeck Republic. There was a whole lot more and we will save it for you to enjoy when you actually see the released show. Needless to say it was a great show and the chat-room agreed.

Our second show we still had a packed chat-room and Creative Director Dave Dufour and I talked more about what you should know about placing your first geocache. It was sort of a continuance from a show we did last week. We had so much material to cover and it was important to get it all so when a geocacher does place a hide, they are well prepared.

Finally after both shows were complete we did Monday's edition of RVNN LIVE which is a daily collection of everything that happens at the RVNN.tv studios. So even after four hours worth of taping we still had a good crowd going in the Chat-Room. It is a lot of fun watching how the shows are made and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. I like watching it too!

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Episode #26: Placing Your First Geocache

Wow, all I can say about last night's live recording of Geocaching World is wow. It was a night of experimentation, really cool prize give-a-ways and all around good times.

I personally started early when Creative Director Dave Dufour asked me if I wanted to be a part of the days episode of RVNN Live. Since I had already my equipment like lighting, sound and computer systems in place it was a no brainer. There Managing Director Andy McCaskey, Dave and myself talked about all things RV for about 45 minutes or so. We always have such a good time just talking the time flys by.

Next thing I knew Producer Courtney Wallin was getting things ready for our recording of Geocaching World. During this time I am busy getting the word out to all of my Google+, Twitter and Facebook fans that the show is about to begin recording. Then I get all my show notes in order via my Ipad2 and netbook which I monitor the chat room during the show. Finally on my main computer I get my Skype hookup in place and any other props or items I may want to show during the taping. It is an unusual balance of controlled chaos but we have been doing this for a while and I am used to it.

Tonight was a bit different for a couple of reasons. One, we all really wanted to see if we could work in a Google+ Hangout. This is a conference type of application where you can have up to ten people video chatting at the same time. Long story short. Going to take some more testing and tweaking. Skype and Google+ do not play together well, but we will keep at it.

The second reason the show was a bit different was we were giving away a couple of really nice prizes only to the people who were in the chat room during the taping. The prizes included a very cool key-chain donated from GeoSurvivalGear.com and the second was an actual Cache-A-Maniacs Geocoin. We will be posting more about our GW Cache Stash sponsorship program in an upcoming post. So more later.

The show itself went great. we had Pingvoyager from North Carolina on in the first segment talking about his and his friend Luckysgirls's night time geocaching adventure via kayak. We had a little problem with some delay issues but overall a great discussion.

Segments two and three Dave and I talked about many of the things you need to consider if placing a geocache. We had so much content that this is going to come up again in a future episode. The whole point to it was to get Dave enough information to place his first geocache correctly. More information about that in the show.

So with the record crowds in the chat-room, all the great discussions with the viewers and with each other the night was a complete success and a whole lot of fun. RVNN.tv gave out five stickers to the chat-room and so there were a whole lot of happy people. We hope you can attend our next recording and join in the fun.

Scheduled for our next recording will be Monday, August 15th. We plan on doing two shows starting at 6:30pm EST. Our planned special guest will be Eric Schudiske from Groundspeak.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Episode #25 - Munzee Talk

I was very excited to be back on camera once again. We had not recorded another episode of Geocaching World since Geowoodstock IX back in early July. It was even more of a surprise when I found out that Phil May host of Gadgetplex was visiting the RVNN.tv studios. So we had a very special guest with tonight's LIVE recording.

Because this was an attempt to get back on our normal recording schedule we taped only one episode and it was on a Wednesday instead of our summer schedule of Monday nights at 6:30pm EST. I was very pleased to see many of our regular viewers in the Ustream chat-room just like always. Geocachers are the best and thank you for being there.

Since Phil is our electronics show expert we of course started the show talking about some of the gps gadgetry he was familiar with. One of the items that I thought quite clever was a key-chain sized gps that allowed you to mark an important spot like where you parked your car so you could quickly get back to it. I see that very handy if you don't have a smart phone but would like that functionality.

Segments two and three we talked about an extremely popular adaptation of the geocaching theme. It's called Munzee and is an electronic, smart phone, search and discovery game. If you frequent my blog there are several really instructive posts I have placed for you to enjoy. In tonight's episode we go over many of the basics and I also take you on one of my earliest Munzee hides.

Geocaching World is in it's first season and already it is one of the top shows in the RVNN.tv network. There are several reasons for this. Starting with hosts Dave Dufour who just learned about Geocaching and Andy HeadHardHat Smith who has been very involved with the family activity for years. Then the extremely informative banter as Andy and Dave discuss all the aspects of Geocaching including many side subjects likes photography, hiking, technology and much more. Finally there are our amazing viewers who can watch the show as it is recorded LIVE or as it is distributed via ITunes, TechPodcast, Blubrry, Roku and many other viewing choices. Above all this entertaining show would not be possible without you.

So with all the many ways someone can see entire episodes via the web. Why are we putting out teasers of the show and featuring them on YouTube? When we say teaser we are not putting the whole show out there but rather the second segment of three from each show. This will give a good sampling of what the show is about and hopefully will have people wanting to see the show in it's entirety. Overall this is really to help pull in folks who may not be familiar with Geocaching World yet. Our regular viewers will already know to watch off off Thea RVNN.tv website or use ITunes and the like.

The main thing is to keep everyone informed as much as possible. So if Geocaching World comes up in one of your Geocaching discussions be sure to point the discussion to any one of the ways for everyone to enjoy our show. We would appreciate it greatly.

IT'S ALIVE!!! - The RVNN.tv Tricaster Is Back

I was informed late last night by Creative Director Dave Dufour that the newly repaired and now revamped tricaster is finally back in the RVNN.tv studio. W00t! The tricaster FYI is the main piece of studio equipment used to control all the cameras, audio and other aspects of putting a TV show together while it is being recorded. Basically no tricaster - no shows.

We were really going on strong with Geocaching World recording two shows a week for months. Then we did two live shows at Geowoodstock IX the largest geocaching event in the world. Then... Whamo! Dead Tricaster.

That was the beginning of July and it is the 28th today. Way too long to not be doing the live recordings everybody loves so much. That has now changed. So here is what we are going to do. It looks like Monday, August 1st, 2011 will be the next time recording date. So be sure to mark your calendars and be in our chat room at 6:30pm EST. Why you ask? We have some major surprises in-store for our fans and viewers and if you want in on the action you have to be in the chat room to "get some".

More details will be leaked as we get closer to show time.

Holy Cow we had a great time at Geowoodstock IX.

Behind The Scenes of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) Geowoodstock IX Editions

I tell you what. There is nothing like doing a LIVE recording in front of an audience and you couldn't ask for a better group of people than the ones we met at Geowoodstock IX. That's right the RVNN.tv gang packed up our equipment and headed out to Warren, PA for the largest geocaching event of the year. We taped two shows which were #23 and #24 in the Geocaching World roster. Lets go over the highlights.

Show #23 was so much fun. We started out with Dave Dufour and myself welcoming everybody and basically explaining what Geowoodstock was and all the things you can do and see there. Then we had some audience participation. For example we had a lucky contestant come up and try to find the winning log out of an ammo box filled with 35mm containers. Loads of fun with that one. Our special guests for this episode were several members of the Geowoodstock IX committee. They put so much work into this amazing geocaching event that it only seemed appropriate to shine the spotlight on them. In our final segment we had another audience participation contest with two contestants. It was informative because we talked about a really neat geocache that I made and then we used it for a nano log roll up contest - muhahahahaha! Loads of cool fun you will have to see the episode to appreciate.

Show #24 was a blast as well. We liked the ammo box bit so much we did it again and you will have to see the last seconds of this to believe it. No spoilers today - sorry. Our special guest for this episode was an RVing Geocacher who also was attending Geowoodstock IX. Since Geocaching World and RVNN.tv is such a great combination, this was a perfect interview to show our viewers how geocachers use their RVs to travel the country and enjoy our game, sport and obsession. You don't want to miss this episode either, then again why would you want to miss any of them?

Before we go we want to thank Darrylw4, Firefly03 and TheBadCop for all their contributions and setup of the Media/Podcast building. Managing Director Andy McCaskey did the camera work with help of my daughter Amanda Geoness Smith who also did camera work and assisted us all day long.

We most likely will be airing these particular episodes a bit early so keep an eye out on the RVNN.tv website.

Behind the Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN) - GPSr Breakdown and Darrylw4 Talks GeoWoodstock IX

Tonight was a real treat for me. We were recording Episodes #21 and #22 of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) which were a whole lot of fun to discuss but the real enjoyment was being able to have my very good friend Darryl Wattenberg aka Darrylw4 as our special guest.

In Episode #21 we discussed at great lengths the different varieties of GPSr units. The main focal points were examined from a geocaching Flash Mob Event I held last year. It was HeadHardHat's Great GPSr Experiment and it was a really great example of how geocachers accuracy really is in the wild.

The other interesting part of this episode was Dave Dufour's encounter of a geocache within a long forgotten cemetery that was only a few hundred feet off of well traveled road. Another example of how geocachers find places no one would know existed if it were not for geocaching.

Episode #22 featured my good friend Darrylw4. Darryl is co-host of the Cache-a-Maniacs Podcast, co-host of the Geocaching Podcast with myself and XpunkX and the head honcho of the Cachers of the Round Table Podcast. Tonight's episode discussed the Media/Podcast setup and schedule of GeoWoodstock IX. Since Darrylw4 is pretty much single handily equipping the entire effort. It seemed more than fitting to put his efforts into the spotlight.

The series of media and podcasts being made available has never been done before. This episode will be put to the head of the line so we can make the GeoWoodstock show. Be sure to watch RVNN.tv, Itunes and the blogs to catch the episode A.S.A.P.

GeoWoodstock IX - Whether You Are There or Not Read This!

If you are a geocacher most likely you will be at GeoWoodstock IX. This year near Warren, PA and just loaded with Geocaching goodness.

If you can't make it to the Mega Event we are going to try our darnedest to send you photos, Tweets, Facebook posts and video streaming. A whole lot is going to depend on the GeoWoodstock folks having the communications set up as promised. So keep your fingers and toes crossed. If everything goes as planned we will have live Ustream showings of some of the media/podcast shows going on that day. Since Dave Dufour and Andy McCaskey from RVNN.tv will be there with me. We are hoping to be also streaming to our RVNN LIVE channel as well. I personally will be sending tweets which goes to my Facebook fans as well. Not to mention pix and information going to my Obsessed blog as well.

First off I want to thank everyone for being so patient while waiting for our Internet TV show Geocaching World to get enough shows ready before actually doing a release. Sure it is always a lot of fun watching us as we do our live recordings on Mondays at 6:30pm EST but not everyone can do that. Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Lunchtime Caching and Unique Geocaching Containers

Hokey smokes Bullwinkle we had two jammed packed shows taped tonight. Show #19 dealt with one of my favorite Geocaching activities - Lunchtime Geocaching. Yes that rare combination of Geocaching quickness and still having time to get something to eat before the buzzer goes off and it's back to work. I tell you what though there is nothing that takes the doldrums out of the daily grind than getting outside and finding a cache. The exhilaration alone gets the blood pumping, add a quick meal and you are ready to take on that afternoon inbox.

Today's episode took us on three separate adventures including a skirt hide, grate hide and a gazebo by a lake. Loads of Geocaching fun. Add in other great tips and tricks to make your timely Geocaching enjoyable and you have yourself a fun time made for all.

Episode #20 was based off a recent event i attended hosted by the Dirtbag Geocaching Society. These guys want to promote Geocaching by pushing the limit and it shows in the three separate demonstrations we present in this episode. Creative Director Dave Dufour and I talk about everything unique and the chat room agrees. Then again the chat room is always hopping when Geocaching World is going on.

Okay here's the situation. We have a whole slew of really great geocaching contests we want to have on Geocaching World. This is to help get our viewers even more involved with our show. The issue is we have this big ole Swag Bag for holding all the prizes but we don't have any swag. Now that is a sad set of affairs I must say. Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - How To Look For Geocaches and Geocaching Destinations

Greetings geocaching fans we had a great time last night doing episodes #17 and #18 of Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). To be honest I was getting a little worried when I noticed the missing amount of action on the RVNN Live monitor. Normally the station is a buzz with activity on Mondays and there wasn't a whole lot of activity being broadcast. What gives? Well from what I gather there has been a whole lot of equipment upgrades and swap-outs over the past few weeks. Combine that with summertime schedules, vacations and other out of the norms and you get a bit of chaos ensuing situations. Anyhow, right about 6:30pm EST everybody showed up and we started shooting pretty much on time. Just kinda missed not doing my cameo on RVNN Live. Oh well.

The tapings went great as usual. We met the new intern "Andy", yes there are now three Andy's in the studio which makes communication a bit interesting. All you hear during production is "Andy I need you to do X, no the other Andy...", all part of the fun.

Show #17 dealt with what to look for while geocaching. You don't usually get that kind of information from people unless you ask which is why this turned out to be such a great show. We actually broke things down by Urban, Wooded and miscellaneous examples of geocaching ground zero areas and then discussed the best places to actually look for the geocache itself. Hopefully this will give beginners some food for thought the next time they go out.

Show #18 talked about geocaching destinations. In other words if you were planning a trip either in your RV, camper or everyone piled in the cachemobile. What is some of the best ways to find geocaches. What we ended up doing is using suggestions from our viewers in the chat room. We had a really good crowd last night and the discussions were going fast and furious as usual. In between discussions of geocaching we were asked to investigate several areas around the country and what we found might surprise you. What that was you will have to see when you watch the actual show which should be out in a few weeks.

See it pays to come come visit us during our live recordings. First off you get to see how an actual TV show is shot, produced and recorded. Plus we talk more about geocaching in between the actual segments than during the show itself. We answer a lot of questions from the chat room audience and many times use those questions in the show itself. Finally you get the sneak peek of all the shows before they air out in the media main stream. Don't forget we record Mondays at 6:30pm EST.. Be there or miss out on a lot of great geocaching goodness.

Geocaching World also includes Dave Dufour who is Creative Director, Courtney Wallin, Producer and Andy McCaskey, Managing Director.

Do You Roku? Watch All The RVNN.tv Podcasts On The Big Screen!

There are several different ways of watching RVNN.tv Internet TV shows on your computer and mobile devices. Everything from Blubrry, Blip.tv, Itunes and straight off of the RVNN.tv website to smart phone apps, Zune, etc.. It is quite enjoyable to watch by yourself but when you really want to enjoy our shows with more than one and have the whole gang present how can we watch on the TV screen?

There are a few really great options if you want to run a cable from your PC to the big screen. Those cables can be expensive and only if you have the right hardware. A much better option is to purchase an Internet streaming option like Roku or Boxee. I personally have a Roku box and find more and more interesting and useful content every day.

When using Roku you instantly have access to Blubrry where you can watch RVNN.tv content like our show RVNN Live. That in itself was great but I wanted ALL the RVNN shows that were available. Fear not viewers, I found an answer.

There is a thing called a Private Channels which allows you to add extra channels to your Roku collection. This is accessed via your Roku Account. When done, simply put in the code ITPC which will add the Itunes Podcasts channel. There you can search for RVNN and the entire line up will appear. Just remember to select video as your selection choice.

Now you can sit back in your easy chair, enjoy your favorite libation and watch Geocaching World and all the rest of the wonderful RVNN.tv shows.

Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Geocaching with the Family and Series Geocaches

Greetings fellow geocachers. Last night's tapings of Geocaching World were a bit exhausting. Not because of the really extensive amount of cool video we used during the show. Not because of the explanations of why we were up in trees, climbing down cliffs or even hunting for geocaches in three foot cement tubes under busy North Carolina highways. Nope. The real reason I actually felt a bit drained is because there weren't as many fans in our Ustream chat room last night. Oh sure I know we have been moving the nights around a lot the past month because of the holidays and scheduling and stuff but it really was last night that I noticed REALLY how important it is to have you their watching and participating with us while we record the show to make it fun! YOU provide the energy that keeps us pumped. So please do us a huge favor and be there each and every week on Mondays at 6:30pm EST. It's not the same without you!

So what happened with the show? Yesterday was just kind of weird all way round. There was issues with Skype and some really poor performance. This made it difficult to do the show because sometimes the screen would lock up and I could not see what was going on but yet still had to continue because we are recording LIVE. Sometimes weird stuff would happen on RVNN.tv's end like running out of disk space half way through a segment or they had connectivity issues. I mean it happens but maybe we had sun spots or something.

The shows themselves turned out great where the first episode was about taking the family out geocaching. We had a lot of good GeoSnippits video for you to see and enjoy. The second show was about a series of geocaches that dealt with phobias. Dave and I both had a lot of fun with that one as well. You will be able to see these shows in about a month on Itunes. Look for shows #15 and #16 respectively.

Even though we just recently went into production in late April our LIVE audiences have been breaking viewership records at RVNN.tv and we are not talking by a little bit but huge percentages. Behind The Scenes: Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) - Geocaching Swag and Night Caching

Yeah I know, this is a late edition for my behind the scenes observations of this weeks Geocaching World (RVNN.tv). I do have to apologize for being a day late but lets face it. It's a short work week with the holiday, we moved the recording this week to Wednesday and I have been running around like a geocacher with a bad satellite signal. It's been crazy.

Not that I am complaining but here is what Wednesday was like for me.

Completed a standard work day. I am a Sr. Software QA Engineer.
Rushed home to film a one minute commercial for our newest sponsor ADT. It had to be done TODAY!
Setup lights, sound and computer for Geocaching World recordings. We tape two shows a week.
Was asked to come on early and be a guest on RVNN LIVE. Had a lot of fun as usual talking with the gang and discussing geocaching in general.
Filmed two Geocaching World TV shows.
With three minutes to spare tear down Geocaching World setup and prepare for Geocaching Podcast recording.
Do the Geocaching Podcast show.

Around 10:30 pm EST I was finally able to eat some lite dinner, answer emails and then go to bed to get up for the next day. Phew.

All part of the fun and to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way. So now that you know how hectic things can be lets break down this weeks Geocaching World show.

As stated above I came on early and was a guest on RVNN LIVE. There Dave Dufour and I talked about some of the subjects we would be discussing. When that was finished it was time for pre-show prepping which meant after my equipment was in order I was busy Tweeting everybody and letting them know that we were about to start recording, did they register for Geek of the Week, meet up in the chat room in XXX number of minutes. That kind of stuff.

That night we talked about two different things. First was Night Time geocaching which was a lot of fun. The chat room was really hopping with the introduction of Geek of the Week, where we have a contest that you can win prizes for bringing people to come see us record live (more information on our website - http://geocaching-world.blogspot.com/ ). So basically Courtney our Producer had a lot of fun trying to keep up with the chat room AND produce the show.

Each show consists of three segments. In between is all the commercials and interest points RVNN wants you to know about. As always we get into discussions with the people in the chat room and I really believe we talk more about geocaching in between sets than in the actual show. We really do love talking so the more the merrier. It also shows why it is so very important to see the live recordings. You get that much more information.

Anyhow the first show was a breeze and the second dealt with the subject of geocaching swag. Very good show except we ran out of disk space half way through segment three and had to redo that one from scratch. Eh, it happens. You grin and bare it. Part of show biz.

We had our first Geek of the Week winner that night who was 'NYC Geocaching'. He came up with a rather unique way of getting the most number of people to come and watch the show. We will have to tell how in a future posting. Very creative is all I can say. Stay tuned for more details on that too.

This Weeks Geocaching World's Geek of the Week Winner is...

We had an amazing time last night taping Geocaching World. Normally we record on Mondays at 6:30pm EST but because of the holiday weekend we moved over to Wednesday. Didn't matter we had tons of viewers and an extremely active chat room. Thanks from us to you for being there!

Seeing Episodes In The Raw

One of the cool things you can do on RVNN.tv is to be able to see many of the shows that are created on site in raw format. What does raw mean? Well when we record our shows they are usually done LIVE. In fact you can actually watch us as we do the taping.

When the show is finished being taped it is stored on a computer and has not yet been edited. Which means you can see things like the familiar green screen in the back ground. All of us making fun of ourselves in between segments, different members of the show giving instructions in the background. That kind of production stuff. Every weekday RVNN makes an hour long show called RVNN Live. In that hour show you get to see recently created episodes in that raw format before they are formally released. You also get a lot of insights to RVNN.tv and an occasional personal appearance from the show hosts including yours truly.

So if you want to see how a television show is taped come see Geocaching World on our usual recording nights of Monday at 6:30pm EST. You can also see all the other RVNN tv shows by getting information from the RVNN.tv website.

WIN PRIZES with the Geocaching World's Geek of the Week Challenge

GEEK OF THE WEEK CHALLENGE

The RVNN crew came up with a really great weekly challenge for everyone who comes to our chatroom while we are recording Geocaching World.

It is called the Geocaching World: Geek of the Week Challenge.

This is really cool and you can win some really great prizes.

It goes something like this. You need to get a Ustream login by going to http://www.ustream.tv/ which takes about five seconds to do.

Next to officially qualify you need to send Courtney Wallin an email (cwallin@rvnn.tv) and put the word "geek" in the subject of the email and then give Courtney your Ustream login name. Courtney will then email a special code back to you.

Now the fun part.

You recruit people to come to the Geocaching World chat room when we are taping our shows LIVE. You will know what day and times we will be taping by going to my blog here: http://headhardhat-geocache.blogspot.com/.
You then give your recruits your secret code (dont give your code to anybody else except your recruits!). Each week we will tally up all the people in the chat room and see who recruited who. We will also keep track of how many people you recruited. Each week we will mention the leader-board during the show and if we have any prize winners.

To Win Your Prizes.

When you eventually recruit 10 people to come to the chat room with your secret code. You will win a nice prize. If you eventually recruit 100 people you get much better prizes. Like RVNN hats, beverage mugs and more. There will also be other special prizes as well which will be announced at random in the chat room and on the show but this is how we are starting Geek of the Week.

HeadHardHat Needs Your Help! Suggestions for the Geocaching World Challenge of the Week

Every week on Geocaching World (RVNN.tv) HeadHardHat is asked to come up with a 'Geocaching Challenge of the Week'. This is a challenge that is given to all of our viewing audience weekly and to help them get involved with geocaching as an activity.

We need to come up with a list of these challenges that we can pull from and we'd love to have them come from you. If your suggestion is selected you will be mentioned in the show during the Challenge and you may become eligible for a prize.
